Summary

Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera reunite to continue the story of Arthur and Ben, the boys readers first fell for in the New York Times bestselling rom-com What If It’s Us

Ben survived freshman year of college, but he’s feeling more stuck than ever。 His classes are a slog, his part-time job working with his father is even worse, and his best friend Dylan’s been acting weird for weeks。 Ben’s only real bright spot is his writing partner Mario, who’s been giving him a lot of Spanish lessons and even more kisses。 Mario’s big Hollywood dreams make Ben start to dream bigger—and the choices he makes now could be the key to reshaping his future。 So why can’t he stop thinking about a certain boy from his past?

Arthur is back in New York City for the first time in two years, ready to take the theater world by a storm as the world’s best 。 。 。 intern to the assistant of an off-off-Broadway director。 Of course, it sucks to be spending the summer apart from his sweet, reliable boyfriend, Mikey, but he knows their relationship is strong enough to weather the distance。 Which is why it’s no big deal when his ex-boyfriend Ben stumbles back into the picture。 And it’s definitely fine that Ben’s blissfully happy with some mystery boy。 First loves are special, but it’s way too late for what-ifs。 Right?

Even as the boys try to shake off the past, they keep running into each other in the present。 Is this the universe trying to tell them there’s a do-over in their future?

Thank you to Goodreads。 I won an ARC through Goodreads Giveaways。 I loved What If It’s Us and hoped this would be as good。 I was not disappointed。 I loved this book just as much if not more。 The writing and character development drew me in from the beginning and kept me hooked to the very end。 I will not spoil anything so I’m not going to comment on the relationships at all。 I will just leave it at this — if you liked book 1, do not hesitate to jump into book 2。

I was so excited to read more about Ben and Arthur (and lets be honest, my favorite bff Dylan), and this delivered and then some。 I legitimately finished this within a day, and I did not want it to end, even a little bit。It's heartfelt, and I teared up a few times because I just reacted SO HARD to the emotions these characters were going through。 I love a good will they-won't they and this captured that so perfectly while still staying true to how messy and complicated relationships are, especia I was so excited to read more about Ben and Arthur (and lets be honest, my favorite bff Dylan), and this delivered and then some。 I legitimately finished this within a day, and I did not want it to end, even a little bit。It's heartfelt, and I teared up a few times because I just reacted SO HARD to the emotions these characters were going through。 I love a good will they-won't they and this captured that so perfectly while still staying true to how messy and complicated relationships are, especially at such a young age。 I expected to despise both new love interests in this but I DIDN'T and it broke my heart because they were both such lovely characters and truly I'm getting teary now just thinking about this。 This book just made me feel good。 The characters are as lovable and as real as they were in What If It's Us and it was lovely to see them grow up and still be themselves。 Also, Dylan has never done a thing wrong in his life and I hope he never finds his chill。 Ever。 。。。more

It's unfortunate how difficult it was for me to get into this sequel。 I was provided with an advanced reader's copy at work as a bookseller, and I held very high expectations after having adored the first book despite it's sad ending。 However, the characters got conflicting and I started forgetting what made me love them in the beginning。 Nonetheless, it carried a lot of important conversations and ideas that I could heavily get behind。 Overall, this isn't a bad book。 It's just a bit disappointi It's unfortunate how difficult it was for me to get into this sequel。 I was provided with an advanced reader's copy at work as a bookseller, and I held very high expectations after having adored the first book despite it's sad ending。 However, the characters got conflicting and I started forgetting what made me love them in the beginning。 Nonetheless, it carried a lot of important conversations and ideas that I could heavily get behind。 Overall, this isn't a bad book。 It's just a bit disappointing after the high of reading the first novel。 。。。more

I am so happy I loved this book you cannot even begin to imagine。 I was so scared I would hate it, as it is often the case with sequels to contemporary standalones, but I actually loved this book even more than the first one。I read this book both at the worst and best time possible and I cried a lot while reading it, but I am so glad to have read it when I did。The writing style is as smooth and easy as I remembered, but it conveyed pretty well the fact that the characters were older which I thin I am so happy I loved this book you cannot even begin to imagine。 I was so scared I would hate it, as it is often the case with sequels to contemporary standalones, but I actually loved this book even more than the first one。I read this book both at the worst and best time possible and I cried a lot while reading it, but I am so glad to have read it when I did。The writing style is as smooth and easy as I remembered, but it conveyed pretty well the fact that the characters were older which I think is what made me enjoy this book more, because I felt it was more relatable。I really loved all the plot shenanigans and the fact that the secondary characters had more of a role。Maybe it was not a perfect book, but it was the perfect book at the perfect time for me and I am so glad I read it in one sitting。 I really needed it and it made me remember why love Adam Silvera so much。 Becky Albertalli has yet to disappoint me, but after Infinity Son I was worried I wouldn't like any of the things Adam wrote anymore。 Thankfully, it's just that series and he hasn't lost his magic touch with contemporaries for me!I highly recommend you read this book if you are a bit sad and need to not think about your life; even if it is a bit melancholic and I *did* in fact cry a lot, it was so good to read it and think about Arthur and Ben for a whole night。Thanks so much to the publisher for giving me an ARC of this book via Edelweiss+。 。。。more

Silvera and Albertalli deliver a perfect 10/10 yet again。 These two as a writing duo are incredible。 What if it’s Us was heartwarming and it’s adorable sequel does not disappoint。 I was so exited to receive this ARC but also skeptical。 What if it’s Us felt like a complete story that didn’t necessarily require a sequel。 Here’s to Us is a wonderful addition that we didn’t even know we needed。 It’s a story about growth and finding one’s self。 It’s a story that I think is valuable for any young adul Silvera and Albertalli deliver a perfect 10/10 yet again。 These two as a writing duo are incredible。 What if it’s Us was heartwarming and it’s adorable sequel does not disappoint。 I was so exited to receive this ARC but also skeptical。 What if it’s Us felt like a complete story that didn’t necessarily require a sequel。 Here’s to Us is a wonderful addition that we didn’t even know we needed。 It’s a story about growth and finding one’s self。 It’s a story that I think is valuable for any young adults/ new adults。 Almost every young adult can relate to either Ben or Arthur’s feelings at some point in their life。 How do you know what path will make you happiest ? Silvera and Albertalli beautifully illustrate what it’s like to navigate life, feelings and relationships in your 20s。 Arthur and Ben have grown up since we last read about them at 16 and in some ways they are still growing。 As someone in my early 20s, I really appreciated this book。 It’s lighthearted and emotional。 I laughed, I cried, I grunted in frustration and winced at the secondhand embarrassment that I felt all too strongly。 The characters are just so lovable and well written。 Even they side characters are wonderfully developed。 Even Dylan, who can be so much at times (but don’t we all know a Dylan? Lol) I have nothing but praise for this book and I especially think those in the 18-2p range will appreciate this novel 。。。more

Arthur! DYLAN! I love them all so much it hurts!😆Just like any Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera book, this one was filled with emotion, humor, and love。 As always, the characters were super relatable and lovable and complicated and I want to give them all hugs right now but I can’t because we’re in a pandemi lovato and also they aren’t real but I love them nonetheless💙I thought the plot of Here’s To Us was well-paced and the dual POVs were nicely balanced。 And the ENDING! THE ENDING!! Omg my emotions😭 The addition of new characters brought some complications into the mix, but isn’t that how it always goes? I really appreciated meeting the new characters (Mario and Mikey), and I think they added a nice balance to the story。 Also, I need to talk about the fact that Dylan’s Dylan-ness has reached new levels and I am HERE FOR IT🙌🏻🤣 He’s one of my all-time fave characters and literally THE funniest character I’ve read, so thank you Becky and Adam for bringing him back into my life!If I could give this book and What If It’s Us 1000 stars I would, but alas, the scale on Goodreads only goes up to 5, so 5 stars it is。 But seriously, if you read and loved What If It’s Us, you NEED to get Here’s To Us when it comes out。 Thank you Becky and Adam for the beauty that is this book, and I can’t wait to read more of your collabs in the future (hint hint)🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 。。。more

3。5 - this was a really cute do-over love story。 parts were super well-written and parts seemed overly-sappy for my personal taste。 i'm personally not a super huge fan of the pining trope when there are other people in the picture, but i think it was definitely handled better than most。 parts probably would have made more sense to me, though, if i realized before i was halfway through that it was a sequel and that i hadn't read the first book yet lol 3。5 - this was a really cute do-over love story。 parts were super well-written and parts seemed overly-sappy for my personal taste。 i'm personally not a super huge fan of the pining trope when there are other people in the picture, but i think it was definitely handled better than most。 parts probably would have made more sense to me, though, if i realized before i was halfway through that it was a sequel and that i hadn't read the first book yet lol 。。。more

I received a physical ARC of this book through work。 I would like to start off by saying this is probably the highest I have ever rated a book by either of these authors。 I had really strong negative opinions on the first book, but I really hate not liking authors of lgbt books, so I cleansed my negative feelings from the first book before I began this one。 First, what I liked about the book。 There was a stark improvement between this and the first。 The pop culture references were kept at a tole I received a physical ARC of this book through work。 I would like to start off by saying this is probably the highest I have ever rated a book by either of these authors。 I had really strong negative opinions on the first book, but I really hate not liking authors of lgbt books, so I cleansed my negative feelings from the first book before I began this one。 First, what I liked about the book。 There was a stark improvement between this and the first。 The pop culture references were kept at a tolerable level, and Harry Potter was not mentioned a single time, which was the source of my main gripe with the first book。 I feel like there was more of an established plot in this book, although I would use that word lightly。 The characters were overall a lot more likeable in this book, and at times you did really root for Arthur and Ben to end up together。 At times。 I added a whole star to my review because I genuinely enjoyed the ending, compared to the last book which was not satisfying at all。 However, it doesn’t even matter because that star was so quickly revoked when the authors referenced one of Silvera’s other books within the text。 It was so out of place, I had to physically set the book down and reflect on whether continuing to read the book was worth it。 Not that it really mattered, because a lot of the conversation in general for this book seemed out of place and unrealistic。 I understand that it’s hard to write modern teenagers, but these teenagers were like mini thirty year olds。 Most of their references were outdated, and I might have been convinced they were realistic teenagers if this book had taken place 10 or 12 years ago。 Dylan, much like the first book, was completely insufferable because he just reminded me of the most annoying kid from my high school but amplified times twenty。 Overall, I feel like this book could have been a lot better if the authors would have done a bit more research on the modern teenager, and if the chapters from Ben’s point of view would have let the reader occasionally come to their own conclusions instead of walking us straight to the point。 I would say I genuinely enjoyed this book about 60 percent of the time, and I am excited to see what these authors do together in the future, because this book was 150 percent better than the first。 3/5 stars 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for an advanced copy of this to review! What If It’s Us is such a fun romance, I was excited to get back in Ben and Arthur’s world。 Knowing both Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, this was going to be both a swoony romance and tug at my heart strings。 And I was definitely right! At the beginning, I was a bit worried that some sort of cheating was going to happen。 Both Ben and Arthur start the book in relationships, and I hate it when cheating happens。 But, th Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for an advanced copy of this to review! I was almost tearing up when I read this at the desk at work。 I loved it that much。 Honestly, I need someone else to read it so I can talk about it with them。 Because ah! I can’t get over that ending。 Hits you right in all of the feels。Not only do Albertalli and Silvera have excellent chemsitry writing together, their characters do too。 And not just between Ben and Arthur, but all of the side characters as well。 This little found family in New York is fantastic, each of them adding their own thing to the story。 Silvera and Albertalli are royalty at creating characters, and that shines in this book。All in all, if you’re looking for a swoony, gay romance, this will be the book for you! Definitely one to put on your holiday wish list。 。。。more

What If It's Us was such a joy to read, so when I heard a sequel was coming out I was a bit skeptical。 I didn't see what more could've been done to a story that felt like it had given us what we needed from it。BUT HERE'S TO US。 This is a story about growing up and discovering the new versions of yourself。 I think this story is actually really important for that 18-20 age group。 Or just the "new adult" demographic。 I think we're all familiar with the feelings that Ben go through in this sequel an What If It's Us was such a joy to read, so when I heard a sequel was coming out I was a bit skeptical。 I didn't see what more could've been done to a story that felt like it had given us what we needed from it。BUT HERE'S TO US。 This is a story about growing up and discovering the new versions of yourself。 I think this story is actually really important for that 18-20 age group。 Or just the "new adult" demographic。 I think we're all familiar with the feelings that Ben go through in this sequel and to have it written on the page just really resonated with me。 Ben and Arthur had their whirlwind romance until they didn't anymore。 Long-distance was hard and when the two were finding the affection they craved elsewhere, they called it quits。 On everything。 It's been years since they've seen or spoken to each other and that doesn't seem to bother them very much。 It isn't like they're reminded of the other almost all of the time, or that they compare everyone to them whenever they meet someone new。 No, they're okay。 Ben has Mario, a hot class partner turned pseudo-Spanish tutor turned lover? It's nothing serious。 But Ben likes where things are going and Mario seems to share the same affections。Arthur? He's doing pretty well too。 He and Mikey have been dating for a little bit and he's smitten。 But now he's going back to where everything began。 Arthur gets an internship in New York and suddenly he's back where he's tried to leave so many memories behind。 Should he text Ben? Should they just let the relationship lie where its been lying? The universe has other plans。 Suddenly Ben and Arthur are back in each other's lives, not addressing their history as much as they should。 And they definitely should。 Both love that the other is happy but there's something lingering。 They can't seem to come to terms with what their brains are doing to them but all they know is that they've lost each other once and they're not so willing to lose it again。First of all, and I am starting this by stating this because I couldn't stop thinking about it the whole time, I LOVE Dylan。 What a little ball of energy? Like truly just top tier friendship。 Samantha was also great and her powering Dylan down was amazing。 I just loved the secondary characters so much and I would absolutely love a little novella about them。 I could read Dylan's POV all day but I KNOW it's even more chaotic than I could ever imagine。The writing was lovely。 This feels like it was a little love letter to growing up and into a new life。 I didn't feel like the book was necessary when I learned about it but now I can't imagine not having it。 Was I crazy about all of the back and forth? No。 But it worked for the story so I wouldn't change anything。 The big moments were just as heartfelt and special as the small ones and I just held my breath through all of them anyways。Thank you to Edelweiss and HarperCollins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review 。。。more

I lucked into an ARC of this book。 I was really excited to read it even though the first one was just ok。 Maybe it’s just because I knew the characters already, but I enjoyed this one more, even though the characters had a lot of the same annoying qualities。 I suspected that it was all building to a satisfying ending, and I was right - the last 20% of the book was worth reading the whole thing, and I’m glad I did! I think anyone would be happy to have read this if they read the first one。

What does commitment mean? Where does sex fit into all of this (sex is mentioned often but no actual sex happens on the page)? So, as I said earlier, maybe this just hit me at a grumpy point。 I think it’s probably a charming gay romcom brimming with the fantasy reality of that genre and someone in search of such a novel will enjoy it immensely。Thanks to HarperCollins and Netgalley for the digital review copy。 。。。more

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review。 I was really excited to start this story because I loved “What If It’s Us” so much and wanted more Ben and Arthur in my life。 Yes, their story didn’t work out the first go around, but if it’s meant to be the universe will step in, right? Right。 That’s what seems to be happening with these two while they juggle new jobs and boyfriends (or maybe a will-they-won't-they)。 I honestly couldn’t wait to start it。 And then I kept putting it down。 I’ I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review。 I was really excited to start this story because I loved “What If It’s Us” so much and wanted more Ben and Arthur in my life。 Yes, their story didn’t work out the first go around, but if it’s meant to be the universe will step in, right?
